MURRAY, Utah – A giant American flag can’t be missed on the west side of Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
The flag is named “Big Betsy” and is 11,700 square feet and weighs 400 pounds. It’s the largest flag ever flown.
“Oh, I loved it – watching the flag,” said one of the health care workers who walked out of the hospital to see the unfurling could be heard.

Named after Betsy Ross, this symbol of hope is not only a “thank you” to first responders, but a reminder to all of us of their sacrifice.
As part of National Emergency Medical Services Week, the Follow the Flag organization unfurled “Big Betsy” at 10 a.m. Thursday in front of those on the front lines of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“We’ve all just been really busy and having to adjust a lot. And to see some of the little things that are going on just to be supportive, I think, is really special,” said Allison Christy, a health care worker with Intermountain Medical Center.

Organizers with Follow the Flag said the objective of the mission is to raise the spirits of those under siege in the fight against coronavirus and to remind everyone we are in this together.
Big Betsy will be up for one day, according to Intermountain Medical Center.
