Caldwell mother faces charges after infant fatality at West Valley Medical Center

CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS2) On Feb. 20, a detective with the Caldwell Police Department responded to a report of a fatality involving an infant at West Valley Medical Center. Upon questioning Schamir Abilene Gutierrez- Hernandez, it was discovered that Gutierrez- Hernandez was awakened by her roommate to find her 9-month-old baby wedged between the wall

On Feb. 20, a detective with the Caldwell Police Department responded to a report of a fatality involving an infant at West Valley Medical Center.

Upon questioning Schamir Abilene Gutierrez- Hernandez, it was discovered that Gutierrez- Hernandez was awakened by her roommate to find her 9-month-old baby wedged between the wall and the mattress.

The baby was blue and not breathing. The baby was rushed to the emergency room, where he was declared deceased upon arrival.

Charges were filed, and she was arrested on July 15 for involuntary manslaughter, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia with the intent to use.
