Idaho's weather pattern slowly became more active on Friday.

Christmas Day marked the beginning of what should be a more active pattern, at least for the time being. A trough of low pressure will swing into the region Saturday. It's going to primarily be a rainmaker for the Valley, with several inches of snow for the mountains.

Even so, it's not going to be the strongest of storms.

Long-range computer models suggest the flow will continue out of the northwest through the end of next week. That means that any additional storms that form in the North Pacific will likely move into the northwest part of the country. As a result, the next front should arrive around Wednesday night into early Thursday.

Models are showing another system around the end of the week or next weekend.

The main difference with the pattern is we shouldn't see a big, blocking ridge of high-pressure building across the west. It's the high-pressure systems that push the storm track well north of Idaho, keeping us on the dry side.

Snowpack levels are running 80 to 85 percent of the normal range. Two or three good storms could easily bring our levels back up to normal.

Stay tuned to CBS2 for more weather updates.
