If you're like most people, you only get to watch figure skating during the Olympics or when a "Show" on Ice comes to town. We've been fortunate as a Macaroni Kid family to experience some amazing ice skating shows in Roanoke, include Cirque and Disney on Ice shows.  The intensity and commitment to the sport is seen with every spin and perfect landing.  One thing that has always stood out to me is that the skaters do not take their success for granted. With every successful land, gratitude and pride beams across their face. I'm excited to share with you that we now have year round opportunities in the Roanoke Valley to learn to ice skate and attend Theatre on Ice shows at the Lancerlot Sports Complex.

Meghan Noga, the Ice Skating Director at Lancerlot, brings over 20 years of experience to her students including freestyle and synchronized figure skater at Ohio University. She has completely revamped the Learn to Skate program for learners of all levels and started a new program, Theatre on Ice.

Skating parent, Kirsten DeGonzague, says, "The Learn to Skate program was a gift for us this past year.  The instructors are excellent and create an environment of success for all skating levels. The community is wonderful and we all celebrate watching our children learn new skills.  The Theatre on Ice program has been a great opportunity for my daughter to not only learn new  skills,  but also choreography with her team. It has been a wonderful experience overall and we are so blessed to have such wonderful coaching and guidance with Meghan Noga."

The final show of the season is December 18th, 2021, A December to Remember.  The show features 13 solo performances and 3 group performances set to classic and newer holiday songs. The public is invited and encouraged to attend either showing at 11:30 a.m. or 6 p.m. for only $5.

In addition to the show, Lancerlot is decked out with dozens of holiday trees and other fun holiday light inflatables and displays.

The Learn to Skate sessions are six weeks in length and consist of two 45 minute sessions.  Learn more here. The next Theatre on ice show will be the Wizard of Oz on May 21, 2022. Skaters will audition on January 15th, 2022.

Interested families can check out seasonal public skating at Lancerlot Sports Complex all month long.
