Tuesdays in the Field Home School Programming
Help your home school lessons come to life by cultivating your students’ curiosities at Tuesdays in the Field. During this program, home school students and their accompanying adults will have exclusive access to our interactive Aquanaut Adventure: A Discovery Zone for a unique self-paced experience. Georgia Aquarium educators will be stationed throughout Aquanaut Adventure and in our classrooms to facilitate a variety of standards-based activities for students K-12 that will allow your students to investigate the scientific process by making observations, applying knowledge, and drawing conclusions. Feel free to explore and participate in the activities at your own pace between the hours of 9:00am-1:00pm, and then make your way to the main floor to view our galleries, AT&T Dolphin Celebration, Under the Boardwalk, and the 4D Funbelievable Theater.
Note: the Tuesdays in the Field atmosphere is an informal setting as opposed to a set program, where students are encouraged to stop and engage at a variety of learning opportunities located throughout Aquanaut Adventure. This is a self-paced experience and students are welcome to spend as much or as little time as they would like at each activity. Home school students and their chaperones are welcome to explore the main gallery spaces after their time in Aquanaut Adventure.

Topic: Coral - Did you know that corals are animals unlike any other?! Corals are unique animals that cannot move from place to place to get food, but instead, most rely on tiny plant-like organisms known as zooxanthellae that live in their tissues. This mutualistic relationship provides the zooxanthellae with a home and, in return, the coral is provided with food. A coral reef is much like a bustling city, providing shelter and food for many animals, including sea turtles that may pass through coral reefs during migration. Join us as we explore the ins and outs of the ecosystem that covers less than one percent of the ocean floor, however supports 25% of ocean life!

Join us in fun and engaging activities and discussions to learn about our impact on our ocean and environment.

Topic: Water- Our world is 70% water, so let’s dive in. Come take a journey to find out how the moon and sun affect different tide formations and investigate invisible impacts that humans produce via pollution. In addition, come and see the unique geological processes that impact Earth’s geography and geology. When understanding water, we must understand that it is one of the main reasons for life on this planet. We will dive deep into our circle of life to learn about the history of the unique species that make up our planet. Lastly, we will get a chance to understand the world of bioluminescence and how some organisms have the ability to produce light in some of the darkest places. Hope to see you soon as we embark on a day dedicated to water.

Topic: Cartilaginous- Cartilaginous you say? What is that? Think sharks and rays. At Georgia Aquarium, we have a variety of these species varying in all shapes and sizes, and programs designed to help you understand their habitat, basic needs, anatomy, and just how magnificent these creatures really are. In our program, you will work on classifying, tracking, and understanding the anatomy of these dynamic species.
