After a rollercoaster debut season at Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi is on a mission to silence his critics. Messi scored the best goal in France’s top flight this season just minutes after scoring his first Ligue 1 goal of the season in an away match against Clermont Foot. Messi wowed with a stunning bicycle kick goal off a near flawless pass from Leandro Paredes.

Fans were quick to appreciate Messi’s bicycle goal even going as far as comparing it with fellow ‘GOAT’ Cristiano Ronaldo’s strike against Juventus in the Champions League quarter-final four seasons prior. Here are some exciting tweets which epitomize Messi’s wonder strike on the social media platform:

2 goals and an assist for Messi tonight. The diminutive genius is finding his incredible feet at PSG.

Ligue 1 gameweek 1: Clermont Foot 0-5 PSG as it happened

A late Lionel Messi double helped Paris Saint-Germain start their Ligue 1 title defence in inspired fashion despite Kylian Mbappe’s absence with a 5-0 rout of Clermont Foot on Saturday. The Argentinian netted two finishes, including a superb bicycle kick, after goals from Neymar, Achraf Hakimi and Marquinhos got the champions off to a dominant start at Stade Gabriel-Montpied.

On the back of last weekend’s Trophee des Champions victory over Nantes, it marks two wins from two for new coach Christophe Galtier following his arrival at the Parc des Princes.
