As per a popular saying in the game of cricket – ‘Catches win you matches’. A player might have an off day with the bat or ball, however, fielding is the only thing that is in full control of everyone present on the field.

Coming to the Indian team, the ‘Asian Giants’ have produced some sensational fielders, especially in the slips cordon. Now, let’s look at the Indian players with the most catches in Test cricket:

Rahul Dravid (210 Catches)

Former India captain and current head coach Rahul Dravid has taken a whopping 210 catches in his Test career of 164 matches. Interestingly, he took 209 catches while playing for India while one came for ICC XI against Australia. The ‘Wall of Cricket’ has pouched more catches than anyone else in the world.

VVS Laxman (135 Catches)

India’s one of the most dependable middle-order batters in Test cricket, Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman aka VVS Laxman went on to grab 135 catches in red-ball cricket. The Hyderabad-born is one of the safest pairs of hands at slips in the history of the game.

Sachin Tendulkar (115 Catches)

‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar was a terrific fielder as well apart from being one of the best batters across formats. The Mumbaikar claimed 115 catches in Test cricket, which puts him in third place in the list of Indian names. He withheld the slips cordon, alongside Dravid and Laxman for several years.

Sunil Gavaskar (108 Catches)

One of the finest batters in the history of Test cricket, Sunil Gavaskar has claimed 108 catches in his iconic career, spanning 125 matches. During his active years, the 72-year-old made plenty of records against his name, including being the first Test cricket player to make over 10,000 runs.

Mohammad Azharuddin (105 Catches)

One of the stylish cricketers to ever play this wonderful sport, Mohammad Azharuddin is the last player on this list to take over 100 catches (105) in Test cricket. Despite some brilliant achievements and records, he remains a controversial name for all the wrong reasons.

Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli (97* Catches)

The duo of the Indian Test team’s current captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has taken 97 catches each in red-ball cricket. They have played 96 and 78 matches respectively in the whites for their country. However, it remains interesting to see who will be the first amongst them to reach the elite club of 100 Test catches for India.
