Barcelona has signed Freiburg’s young German talent Noah Darvich

According to Fabrizio Romano, the contract will include a €3 million fixed fee with potential add-ons totalling €5 million. People may find Freiburg’s willingness to sell one of Europe’s most prized youth assets surprising, but context is critical. Darvish’s contract was set to expire in 2024, and with so many teams interested in him, it appeared he was ready to move on. Freiburg chose to sell him now and receive a guaranteed €3 million rather than risk losing him for free the following summer. His salary at Barcelona isn’t known currently.

Darvich’s talent was obvious from an early age, and he was signed by Freiburg when he was only ten years old, and he quickly rose through the ranks. He had 9 goals and 5 assists in 26 games for Freiburg’s U17 team last year. Understandably, this received a lot of attention.

According to Caught Offside, he is being watched by some of Europe’s major clubs, including Bayern Munich and PSG. Arsenal were also said to be interested, but owing to Brexit restrictions, they couldn’t sign the bright youngster until he reached 18.

Darvich thrived in U17 Euros

Darvich recently played for Germany in the U17 European Championships, where he had four assists and two goals in five games. He also had seven opportunities in the tournament’s group stage, which he shared with Lamine Yamal, who will now be his colleague in Barcelona.

Both athletes were named to the tournament roster, and the prospect of both of them playing on the same team is an intriguing prospect for supporters.

The player profile

Darvich’s creativity and ball control have drawn comparisons to fellow German midfielder Mesut Ozil. Darvich is a technically gifted midfielder who is comfortable moving the ball forward but also has a strong eye for the final pass, as evidenced by his assist totals and opportunities created.

Despite being only 16 years old, he is strong for his age. He can defend the ball and never shies away from his defensive duties. Although he would struggle with the physical demands of first-team football if given the opportunity now, his track record suggests that he will be OK as he matures.

Darvich is most productive as an offensive midfielder, but he can also play as a deeper centre midfielder or a right winger. He is a left-footed playmaker who can also find cutting passes with his right foot, making him a dangerous final-third player. Darvich’s leadership talents are undervalued; he was appointed captain of the U17 team that won the European Championships last summer.
