The Krafts are heavyweights in the Boston game with considerable backing and influence on the local government. Now they want to directly partake in politics as New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s son Josh Kraft could be the face of the opposition in Boston.

As the elections for Mayor come closer, Kraft’s name has been floating around in the mouths of the locals as a candidate for the post. He is considering running in the 2025 elections.

The president of the New England Patriots Foundation, Josh Kraft, spent decades establishing himself as a philanthropist. Kraft spent 30 years with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston before taking on the responsibilities of Kraft Family Philanthropies.

According to Niki Griswold of the Boston Globe, Kraft is eyeing the 2025 elections. Furthermore, a report from the CommonWealth Beacon revealed that Kraft had aspirations of joining the last December’s elections.

It also mentioned that Kraft bought a condo in Boston’s North End under an LLC and that their base of operations was the Patriots Gillette Stadium. It’s convenient because that’s less than half an hour away from the Boston City Hall.

Who can be the biggest threat to Josh Kraft and his hunt to become the next Mayor of Boston?

According to Griswald, the biggest competitor between Josh Kraft and the Mayor’s chair is the sitting Mayor Michelle Wu. However, Wu has yet to announce whether she will run for the chair again.

The Globe further revealed that a sitting Boston Mayor hasn’t lost a re-election for more than 70 years. The last time that happened was back in 1949. Wu edged out several Kraft-backed candidates in the previous election. She defeated Benjamin Weber, Enrique Pepen, and Sharon Durkan.

It will be tough to knock off Wu considering she won among a lineup of liberals and activists. Kraft on the other hand has one thing that could sway the public opinion in his favor. His history and connection with the NFL franchise may come in handy.

He better hope that the money and power he and his dad Robert Kraft have gathered over the years pull them through. As Globe mentioned, Wu will give a tough fight if she decides to stick around for one more term.
