After missing out on the Scottish Premiership title to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic last season, Philippe Clement’s Rangers are hoping to win back the league title from their biggest rivals and have been busy in the summer.

Mohamed Diomande and Robin Propper are the standout signings with the Scottish side closing in on £10 million worth of additions this summer.

With just days remaining in the summer transfer window, time is running out for the Scottish side if they want to make more additions.

Rangers keen on Josip Brekalo

According to a report from Italian outlet Viola News, Rangers are in the mix to sign Fiorentina winger Josip Brekalo this summer.

The winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Hajduk Split, where he scored two goals and registered eight assists from 14 league games. He returned to the Serie A side, but his future is ‘far away’ from them.

Fiorentina are set for a summer of change with the Italian club appointing Raffaele Palladino as their new manager in the summer and he has given opportunities to Brekalo during pre-season.

However, Brekalo is not one of the first choice options for La Viola and Fiorentina have made the Croatian available for transfer.

The report adds the negotiations are ‘still far from being in full swing’. This would indicate Philippe Clement’s side have made contact to sign the attacker but there’s no offer yet.

Brekalo could be an interesting signing for Rangers

The Croatian winger could be allowed to leave the Serie A club for a decent price and this could be an interesting deal for Rangers to pursue.

The Football Educator labelled Brekalo as the ‘rising star of Croatian football’ but his spell in Italy has not worked out the way that he had hoped.

He made just 11 appearances for Fiorentina before his loan spell to Hajduk Split in January. His best goalscoring season came for Wolfsburg where he scored just seven times.

Despite his low goalscoring return during his career, a move to Ibrox Stadium could be interesting.
