NY Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor disapproved Baltimore Orioles’ decision to demote top prospect Jackson Holliday to the Triple-A league. Recalling his career debut in MLB from minors, Lindor sympathized with the No.1 overall saying, “From my experience, that’s not the way to go.”

Lindor talked about how his manager Terry Francona’s decision “changed everything” and the rest became history. Like Holliday, he was not sure what his future would be like after playing a month in the major league. In 2015, he found himself with a score of .205 with an OPS of .492 with the Cleveland Guardians.

However, Francona’s “You ain’t going anywhere” reply was everything Lindor needed to hear to turn his career around and make stellar progress overall. Orioles, on the other hand, deemed it was better for Holliday to play in the Triple-A for a while after his disastrous debut in MLBFrancisco Lindor commented on this incident, saying,

Not that I’m a GM or a coach or ever will be, but I would not have sent him down. From my experience, that’s not the way to go. Let him try to figure it out here and go get ‘em.
Francisco Lindor as per Dan Martin of NY Post.

The 20-year-old spent two years in the minors after high school and was picked by the Orioles as the top overall in 2022. Despite the demotion, Lindor believes, Holliday will get the chance to play with his teammates Gunnar Henderson and Bobby Witt Jr. as “elite, elite players.”

He praised Jackson Holliday as “gonna be one of the greats in the game” and suggested him not to “put his head down.” Instead, he should take this opportunity to build himself up and get back into the major league as soon as possible.

Orioles GM Mike Elias praises Jackson Holliday as “a brilliant talent” despite demotion to Triple-A

Baltimore Orioles demoting top prospect Jackson Holliday to Triple-A caused wildfire on social media. He was listed back to the minor league only after 16 days of play in MLB. Despite the disappointing outcome, general manager Mike Elias had high praises and expectations from the 20-year-old.

He pointed out the positive outcomes, noting how Holliday was not depressed with the result and instead “got very intense, very specific feedback” from pitching in MLB. Furthermore, he believes that Holliday can reach the next stage with games in Triple-A.

He’s a brilliant talent and a very sharp kid, and I expect he’s going to implement those adjustments really quickly. But we felt that Triple-A and steady playing time in Triple-A was the place for that.

Mike Elias just spoke for 20 minutes about the decision to denote Holliday. I found him remarkable candid about how hard it can be for people in his position to know when a kid is ready. pic.twitter.com/AqITdlqwDa

Manager Brandon Hyde noted that what Holliday will be going through right now is also a “part of being a professional baseball player.” The team said they were impressed with how the 20-year-old infielder handled himself despite the adversity. The baseball world now awaits the day for Holliday’s comeback in MLB.
