Michael Owen thinks Micky van de Ven is facing ‘months’ on the sidelines after Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on Monday night.

Up until last night, everything had been going rosy in the garden for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur.

And then, everything that was going wrong, went wrong, including Micky van de Ven going off injured in the first half because of a hamstring issue – Paul Merson brutally mocked Spurs after losing to Chelsea.

Michael Owen has been in those situations many a time during his career, it’s probably something that killed the latter stages of his time on the pitch.

And he was ‘really worried’ by what he saw from Micky van de Ven’s injury because he thinks Tottenham won’t see their star centre-back for some while yet, as he told Premier League Productions (06/11/23 at 10:35 pm).

Spurs fans, and even the player himself, probably know that he is going to be out of action for some time, it’s just a case of hoping for a best-worst-case scenario.

Micky van de Ven’s injury

“This is the one I would be really worried about,” said Owen. “I felt that many a time in my career. It’s not pretty. It’s not a nice feeling. That looks like a serious one.

“The amount of pain he is in. I think you are looking into the months for that one, sadly.”

Tottenham’s centre-backs

It didn’t help matters that Cristian Romero got himself sent off for a rash challenge inside the box and helped Chelsea equalise by gifting away a penalty.

Not only is van de Ven out of action, but so is Romero suspended, which means that Spurs might have to start Eric Dier alongside Emerson Royal.

This was Tottenham fans’ worst nightmare. They knew this was coming. One injury away from pure disaster.

Those in Spurs colours wouldn’t normally say this, but the quicker the international break comes along for them, the better.
